The Bohemian is a wine bar in the Plaza Midwood neighborhood of Charlotte, North Carolina. Nestled right off Central Avenue, The Bohemian boasts indoor and covered patio seating for enjoying wine and small plates.

The Menu

The Bohemian offers a wide selection of wine with a narrower selection of food. It allows guests to focus on top-notch beverage selections but also keep their stomachs happy. From charcuterie to flatbreads to dedicant desserts, there's plenty to snack on. My recommendation is the Tuscan flatbread and a slice of carrot cake.

As far as the wine, I don't even have to look at the bottle list. I ask Jerry, "what's a crisp white under $30?" He wordlessly selects a bottle within my price range, and it's delicious. I think that The Bohemian offers plenty of choices for a totally scrutinizing wine expert, but I've had great luck with my bottle being chosen for me. So far, my favorite has been the Delta California Sauvignon Blanc.

The Experience

Whether you choose inside or the covered patio, The Bohemian has a welcoming, modern and slightly eclectic atmosphere. Art and wine bottles line the walls, and the moderately dim lighting feels cozy yet upscale. Though it's been relatively busy every time I've visited, there's plenty of tables to choose from for parties less than five.

The bartenders are helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. Like I mentioned previously, their expertise on the menu is a huge help in choosing the right wine for whatever I'm craving. Guests make their way up to the bar for service, and it never takes too long to put an order in.

The Value

After moving to Charlotte, I begrudgingly became accustomed to paying upwards of $11 for each glass of wine at a bar or restaurant. During my first visit to The Bohemian, I almost didn't believe that they offered bottles in the $20-30 price range I was pleasantly surprised. Go with a friend or a group, split a bottle and some food, and you can still get away with a relatively cheap date. It's a great value.

Overall

The Bohemian is one of my favorite places to go for a drink with friends. Their affordable yet delectable selections make it a top destination for an after work drink or tasty night out. Overall, it's a solid 10/10.
