Specialty latte: $7.50 for a 12oz brown butter sage latte – 8/10
Black coffee: $3.00 for a 12oz drip coffee – 7.5
Vibe: 10/10
Overall: 8.5
For the specialty latte, I ordered a 12oz brown butter sage latte (with almond milk). The first sip was shocking: it definitely tasted like butter! It quickly grew on me, the sage providing a unique, herb-forward flavor and the butter bringing a super rich, creamy texture. It almost reminded me of biting into a scone—a little bit of salt to complement to the sweet.
The vibe at The Hobbyist can be described as, well, perfect. The weather was lovely on the day I went, so the garage door was open and letting in fresh air to the shop. The lighting is comforting, and plants provide a fun pop of color where they line the counters and ceilings. The stark black and white contrast of the space is also broken up beautifully with warm wood furniture and accents.
The Hobbyist has a selection of pastries to choose from, from croissants to double chocolate muffins. Probably not enough for a meal, but enough to satisfy a craving.
There’s a small parking lot behind the building, and free parallel spots lining the surrounding streets. These spots are all shared with other local businesses, so you may have to park a short walk away during busy times.
The Hobbyist is a fantastic place to bring your work. Between the patio, the regular tables, the bar, and a cozy alcove of couches, you won’t feel like you’re taking up too much space. I saw a few people with their laptops or reading when I visited, so you wouldn’t be out of place.
Overall, The Hobbyist’s unique drinks can be savored in their top-notch ambiance. Bring your work or bring your date—either way, you’ll enjoy it immensely.
