Specialty latte: $6.75 for a 12oz cake pop latte – 7/10
Black coffee: $3.00 for a 12oz drip coffee – 5/10
Vibe: 5/10
Overall: 5.7/10
For the specialty latte, I ordered a 12oz cake pop latte (with almond milk). It truly tasted exactly like a cake pop, which to me, is unique because of its distinct powdered sugar flavor. The flavor was good, but a little too sweet, and it had a somewhat strange aftertaste. I still enjoyed it, though the drip coffee didn’t impress me much.
The vibe at Killer Coffee is more of a moody, eclectic brewery than a coffee shop—probably because it is a brewery (Resident Culture)! The actual coffee shop spot is a small space within the brewery, where there are a few small tables by the kitchen and server station. Large windows help to offset the dark interior, but it doesn’t have that cozy cafe feel. There are several unique pieces of art around the whole building, so there is a lot of character.
There’s a menu of simple items like sandwiches and breakfast bowls at Killer Coffee, and Resident Culture has a full restaurant menu, but you have to sit in a separate section for those selections.
Killer Coffee is located right in the heart of South End, so parking is at a premium. There’s a few paid lots close by, but if you’re lucky, you’ll snag a parallel spot for free.
I’m on the fence about remote work at Killer Coffee. Like I said, there’s only a few tables in the dedicated coffee area, but they’re relatively quiet seats, so I could go either way.
Overall, Killer Coffee has some creative specialty lattes that are worth a try. It might be better suited for a yummy cup to-go though, rather than a place to hang out and enjoy the vibe.
